Can electronic cigarettes help you quit smoking ? Probably. However, at this moment they cannot be sold as quit smoking aids as the FDA has not approve it for such purposes. They are merely sold as a healthier option which can overcome smoking bans in public places.

With electronic cigarettes, you can an alternative channel for smoking nicotine. So it is easy to reason that if you can control the amount of nicotine just like in using nicotine gum or patches, you would be able to eventually quit smoking.

Electronic cigarettes work using cartridges which contain different amounts of nicotine. So you can slowly reduce the nicotine intake but using different cartridges. Even for a high nicotine level electron cigarette, the amount of nicotine is less than a normal cigarette.

So how many smokers successfully quit using the electronic cigarette? It's too soon to say for sure and no organized studies have been performed to date. I know from my own personal experience that it works and I've read in forums where many have shared their experiences.

To me the electronic cigarette is probably the best option to help you stop smoking as you do not need to suffer the sudden loss of comfort from your smoking. You can go in steps so that it is far less difficult and you are not likely to succeed. Successfully quiting forever starts with a strong conviction to quit. I have proven to myself that this is a good way to stop smoking in steps rather than go through the cold turkey method.

But let's face it... many smokers DON"T want to quit! They just enjoy smoking too much. For this group, electronic smoking can be a much healthier alternative... hopefully one that will keep them alive a lot longer.
